Turkeys

Once, years ago, some of our allies held a great deal of promise.

Instead, many of them have turned into the things we didn't want to promote. Fascist, totalitarian regimes that have no tolerance for religion, race, sex, or opposition.

Such is the return to the fundamentalist state by Turkey.

"In office for three terms since 2002, and enjoying a strong parliamentary majority, the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) has demonstrated a growing intolerance of political opposition, public protest, and critical media. Government legislative and other efforts to limit corruption investigations implicating ministers and the prime minister’s family have seriously undermined judicial independence and the rule of law. A continuing ceasefire between the Turkish military and the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in the context of an embryonic peace process to end a decades-long conflict with the armed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) continues to offer an opportunity to further human rights in Turkey."

Intolerant and corrupt.

And, today, foolish.

"Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan slammed Israeli parliament member Ayelet Shaked, of rightwing Jewish Home party, in response to a Facebook post in which Shaked wrote "Who is the enemy? The Palestinian people. Why? Ask them, they started it."

"If these words had been said by a Palestinian, the whole world would have denounced it," he was quoted by Israeli daily Haaretz as saying. "I ask, for God's sake, what difference does this mentality have from Hitler's?", Erdogan added.

Let me help you out here, Erdogan.

Everything.

The Israeli's see it as self-defense. It's the Palestinians, Hamas, shooting missiles non-stop at the Israeli's. So, yes, ask the Palestinians. The motive could only be determined by asking those who started the conflict - the Palestinians.

This is why Erdogan's statement is disingenuous. The words couldn't have been said by a Palestinian. Why? Because the Israeli's didn't start it. Nor would the whole World denounced it. Like that is even possible with the Arab bloc hating Jews.

My advise to Erdogan? Just unfriend Ayelet Shaked on Facebook. That's easier than making yourself out to be a nitwit.
