Merkel, the messiah of Syria apparently, has been clearly the primary factor. You can hear it from their own lips, see it on their signs, and know that it was Germany. They just seem so ... peaceful!
Now, those in the political class in Germany suddenly realized that the whole "open borders" notion is a bad idea because some of these people aren't really so nice.
(REUTERS) Germany re-imposed border controls on Sunday after Europe’s most powerful nation acknowledged it could scarcely cope with thousands of asylum seekers arriving every day.
Berlin announced that the temporary measure would be taken first on the southern frontier with Austria, where migrant arrivals have soared since Chancellor Angela Merkel effectively opened German borders to refugees a week ago.
“The aim of these measures is to limit the current inflows to Germany and to return to orderly procedures when people enter the country,” said Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere, adding that this was also necessary for security reasons.
Well, that was a big opps!
But hey, Germany, at least your officials recognize that an open border posses an grave security threat, while the ones in the Obama administration can't. Odd, that.
It's no doubt that recent events have the critics saying that Europe is reaping what it sowed, particularly Germany. Closing the borders may give them a fighting chance, but I doubt it.
One can argue that the crisis is not over - even with a fence there. These people have it already in their minds to reach the promises of Germany and the wealthier EU states.
If there is no European country willing to stop the war in Syria, allowing the mass genocide to continue, this could indeed be the death rasp for Europe, as it's unable to control it's own security. Unless the root cause is fixed, the problem will continue to overflow into Europe. I've said before, you can't count on Obama and America to save you. You need to stand up for yourselves, Europe.
