"Tree planted in memory of George Harrison felled ... by beetles.

In a case of unbelievable coincidence, a pine tree planted in memory of the late Beatle. George Harrison was killed by a beetle infestation"

It's ironic, but then when you think about it, the beetle issue has become bigger and larger than some may imagine.
Years of Living Dangerously did a special on it with Arnold Schwarzenegger.

A good article that paints a general idea of what is going on from a science perspective.

Basically, since temperatures are warmer, the beetles are not being killed off by the cold as much.  This leads to populations out of control.  And these things are swarming all over the Western United States.
